Diabetes patients number doubled
According to the latest study performed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, at the present time there are 90% more people that have diabetes than ten years ago. In the second half of the past decade, approximately 5 people suffered from diabetes out of every thousand of Americans. At the present time the statistics is 9 people out of every thousand. The disease is spreading, it looks like epidemics. The worst thing is that almost all these people are now suffering from Type 2 diabetes, which is the next stage of diabetes on which the body of a patient becomes insulin-resistant.
Type 2 diabetes is closely connected with obesity. Many scientists consider obesity one of the key factors causing the growth of the number of people suffering from diabetes. However, scientists and researchers hope that the situation can be taken under control if people start change their lifestyle for more healthy ones. Well-balanced diet and regular exercise are the key players in the healthy lifestyle.
In some U.S. states the number of case of diabetes is very high. Like in Puerto Rico, where diabetes is being diagnosed at an annual rate of 12,8 cases per 1,000 citizens. West Virginia follows Puerto Rico with the rate of 12,7 cases of diabetes per 1,000. Following are Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, and some other states in the south of the country. Somehow southern states are more prone to diabetes than northern ones. Meanwhile, Minnesota has the lowest annual rate of people suffering from diabetes.
Diabetes is a very dangerous disease; it is a disorder of the metabolism causing excessive thirst and the production of large amounts of urine. It can also cause a number of other health disorders such as cardiovascular problems, problems with kidneys and other.
The total number of people that have diabetes is rather shocking. According to the statistics of the American Diabetes Association, approximately 23 million people – 8% of the U.S. population – were diagnosed with diabetes.
To avoid diabetes, people should start keeping their body fat percentage down and live a healthier lifestyle.
