Some Baby Formulas Contain Rocket Fuel Chemicals

Recently a government study was made in order to check if the powdered baby formula contain toxic chemicals and it was discovered that they do and there is some perchlorate in them. The dose of those chemicals was much more than the one considered safe for adults.

There was a group of researchers that focused their study on examining the powdered baby formulas and looking for some harmful elements such as perchlorate in them. They have tested a number of baby formulas being produced by different brands. And finally, the result of the study was published not a long time ago.

Then, perchlorate was found in the drinking water supplies of some cities, especially those that have a defense or and an airfield site nearby. It is considered and proved by many tests that perchlorate does not lead to any health disorders. However, consumed in large amounts, it can harm the thyroid. The thyroid is a large ductless gland in the neck that secretes hormones regulating growth and development through the rate of metabolism. If the thyroid is hurt, the metabolic rate can dramatically decrease. Besides, if a pregnant women experience any health problems connected with the thyroid, it can affect the embryo and later on the infant.

However, it is not quite well assessed what dose of perchlorate is actually dangerous. The scientists recommend adding iodine to the formula to balance the perchlorate action. This was regulated by the government as well. There is also a number of factors that should be taken into consideration such as the size of the baby, the amount of formula consumed, etc.

It is advisable to decrease the amount of formula that is consumed by the baby, despite the fact that it has not been proven exactly what amount of perchlorate is dangerous and whether it is dangerous at all. The thing is that that study was focused in finding the element in baby formula, however no health effects were profoundly studied.

The study has proven though, that cow milk baby formula contained the largest amount of perchlorate. Nevertheless, the scientists have refused to announce the brands that manufacture baby formula. They motivated their refusal by the lack of samples studied.

Before this study, the government has already announced its intentions to set new limits on the amount of perchlorate contained in drinking water. Some of the states have already done that and other are going to take measures concerning the amount of perchlorate in the drinking water.

During the study, several thousands of public water supplies were studies. And it was proved that 4% of those public water supplies contained perchlorate. 30 of them were detected to have more perchlorate than what is considered normal and safe.
