If you eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables like I do, you might be concerned with the amount of chemicals and parasites they come with from your local super-market or even a farmer’s market. That’s right- your organic produce you buy may not have as many poisons but still has so many microorganisms that you can’t afford not washing it thoroughly anymore.
To remove all the parasites and poisons from your vegetables and fruits, use these 3 safe but effective substances you may find in your house (don’t waist your money buying special products for this).
First, you may soak all your produce in a mild solution of apple cider vinegar (you can buy it in a health food store). Mix one tablespoon vinegar per gallon of water (it would be a quarter of a cup for the whole sink), and soak your all your veggies and fruits in this solution for 15 minutes.
Another method is to use hydrogen peroxide 3%, which is rich in oxygen and works as a strong oxidizer. It’s very effective in removing poison sprays as well as destroying all the harmful organisms. You can use regular hydrogen peroxide you can find in any pharmacy or a drug store. The amount to use is the same as with vinegar to make sinkfull, or you can spray the solution directly on the produce and wait for a few minutes before rinsing it off. This is a faster method.
Now, the third method is used in military and requires Clorox bleach (only this brand will work). Clorox bleach acts the same way hydrogen peroxide but the way you use it is slightly different. You should use no more then half a teaspoon for 1 gallon of water. Soak your veggies in the solution for 10 minutes, then place them in clean water for the same amount of time. Have fun!
